Sunday and Monday, July 12-13 | Concert and Rest

Jul 16, 2026

The beauty and fellowship of Ohio Choral Connections continued on Sunday morning with a candlelit Taize style service, led by Dan Yutzy of Canticle Ensemble. It was a perfect ending to our time of choral collaboration. Asked about the highlights of the weekend, many choir members mentioned the joy it was just to interact with so many people who share a love of choral music. Others talked about the richness of listening to various talented choirs, and some discussed particular songs they enjoyed. We were privileged to hear several beautiful pieces that were composed by Drew Roth, one of our very own basses.

After listening to other choirs on Saturday, it was lovely to be in concert mode again on Sunday evening. Hartville Conservative Church welcomed us, and the auditorium was crowded with an appreciative audience. We enjoyed meeting many friends afterward.

Monday was a day of travel and rest. Bus time with Oasis typically includes animated conversations and abundance of laughter, and today’s travel time was no exception. In fact, many of us are feeling some sadness that this year’s tour involves much less travel time than last year’s, since it gives us less time to connect in this way.

We arrived at our hotel in Harrisburg late in the afternoon. From there we dispersed to various places for supper and our choice of evening activities. Many of us rode the bus to City Island, where we could enjoy beautiful views of the river and the city. A few of us opted for a round of mini golf on the island. Later in the evening, an ice cream shop near our hotel did brisk business as many singers found their way there.

This year marks a decade since I joined Oasis Chorale, and sometimes I still find myself incredulous that I have the privilege of singing with all these amazing people. It is a gift I do not take lightly.
